Getting compilation error.

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1

    lastName = System.console.readLine("Enter lastName: ");
    char A;
    char M;

    if (lastName > 'M'){
     line = 2;
    }
    else {
      line = 1;
    }

    return line;

  • You don't need the console or readLine, they give you the lastName in the parameters.
  • You don't need the two Char A and M variables. They are never used.
  • You need to get the first letter of their last name, you can do this with .charAt(0).
