12,105 PointsSoftening edges of sides makes them black?
When I soften the edges of the sides they turns them very dark. Why is that happening? They also don't appear very smooth.
Also I do not have a polysoftedge75 in my channel box. I have a polysoftedge78 followed by a polysoftedge76.

Treehouse Guest TeacherThanks for the note. Yes, the edge softening tool can create undesirable results if it is applied to very angular surfaces (for example, a cube). Ideally, we should only soften edges on areas that are comprised of more organic curves (rounded bevels, etc.).
And don't worry about the number after the polysoftedge input. Maya automatically renumbers these inputs for us, so the numbering in your scene may be a bit different than what appears in my tutorial.
All the best, Jason
