12,449 PointsYes, using the support library Fragment along with the getSupportFragmentManager is the right thing to do. There was a lot of overlap between the two and they didn't want to maintain both so the other one was deprecated.

4,220 PointsThanks for this. It worked for me too. The support libraries are now deprecated so I'm using androidx. Here's the import:
import androidx.appcompat.app.AppCompatActivity;
Here's the code: dialog.show(getSupportFragmentManager(), "error_dialogue");
