Should link to "index.html"......links to "index.html. Am I missing something? It keeps doing this to me.

It also told me my code was wrong when I included the closing tag for <nav>. Why would that be wrong? Why would I wait to put the closing tag?

index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <nav>
          <ul>
            <li><a href= "index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href= "about.html">About</a></li>
            <li><a href= "contact.html">Contact</a></li>

        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

Hi Nigel,

Task 1 starts by asking you to: "Create a navigation element with an unordered list element after the link inside the header".

It is asking you to start your unordered list after the link. So I believe that it wants you to start your list after the closing 'a' tag. So you are heading towards something like this:

<header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
      <nav>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
            <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
        </ul>
      </nav>
</header>

You have an errant link to index.html around the whole header section just inside the header tags.
