7,142 PointsShared hosting vs Cloud hosting
Hi,
I am currently moving through the front-end courses while I work as a Wordpress designer - we build sites for small to medium businesses.
I currently manage 50 Wordpress sites, and we are adding to them at the rate of 1-2 per month.
Currently on shared hosting at Siteground however our inode quota continues to rise so now we are looking at having to transfer about 20 sites to a new account. It's work I don't really want to have to do if I can help it!
Siteground are suggesting we upgrade to cloud hosting. It all sounds great - they'll do the upgrade and there is no inode restriction to deal with in the future. However, the price is a lot more than what we pay now. We currently pay about $300 per year for shared hosting, and cloud hosting is $960 per year.
My question is: what is best practise for a company who are managing this many sites? Is it ok to stick with shared hosting, even though we will continue to build more?
We have no problem with site speed, support or backups on shared. So, why move to cloud hosting? As a side note, I am not (yet!) a developer so overly technical terms will just confuse me.
Thanks!
