Development Tools Git Basics Working With Remote Repositories Pushing and Pulling

set upstream

As I'm following along with the "push" "pull" examples, I received a message about no upstream being set. This wasn't mentioned in the video, and I have no idea what it means. Any answers I've found have been quite confusing.

The reason it's appearing is because your local branch is not associated with the remote branch. So you need to let the git know which branch from the remote it should be tracking. You can do this with the following command

git branch --set-upstream your_branch_name origin/remote_branch_name
