1,121 PointsScrabble problem
So, I am supposed to create a method that returns how many tiles are in the Hand, using a for each loop, and to the best of my knowledge, I have done that. But I guess I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
public class ScrabblePlayer {
private String mHand;
public ScrabblePlayer() {
mHand = "";
}
public String getHand() {
return mHand;
}
public void addTile(char tile) {
// Adds the tile to the hand of the player
mHand += tile;
}
public boolean hasTile(char tile) {
return mHand.indexOf(tile) > -1;
}
public String getTileCount(){
int tileCount = 0;
for(char tile: mHand.toCharArray()){
if (mHand.hasTile){
tileCount ++;
}
}
return tileCount;
}
}

29,567 PointsFor starters you have your method returning a String when it supposed to return an int. You also needed to add a char parameter to your method. Here is what it should look like:
public int getTileCount(char tile){
int tileCount = 0;
for(char letter: mHand.toCharArray()){
if (letter == tile){
tileCount++;
}
}
return tileCount;
}

29,567 PointsYou need to be able to pass in a tile so you can loop through your mHand and count how many of those you have. Then you need to return the number of tiles that you have. so your method heading should be public int getTileCount(char tile){ return number of tiles passed in}
