8,600 PointsRetiring WordPress
Greetings!
We’d like to take a few minutes to inform our students that all WordPress courses and workshops will be retired by 07/06/2019.
For any students who are currently going through these courses, it’s encouraged to complete them prior to this date if you wish to receive their associated badges and points.
At this point, we believe our WordPress content is outdated and no longer meets our standards. Please note that we will not be replacing these courses with updated versions.
If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at help@teamtreehouse.com.

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Student 15,708 PointsWordPress courses helped me a lot. It's kind of sad that we will not have new content about WordPress here. Is there a way to download the old videos?

626 PointsRob Allessi : I think this is a bad decision. I subscribed to TT because of these courses, and although outdated, they are still extrememly useful. Zac's engaging and presentational style is excellent, and I am on my way to develop my first theme. I simply cannot understand why you would remove these courses. The core of wordpress has not changed for a long time and the content is still really useful to help any would be WP developer dive right in. There is simply nothing out there that matches Zac's delivery.

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 56,501 PointsYou may be interested to know that Zac Gordon has a course on Udemy called Complete WordPress Development Themes and Plugins Course. Udemy usually do offers every few weeks or months where their courses are available at a much reduced price.

Courses Plus Student 30 PointsI cannot believe this! I literally just signed up for the Trial because I had seen that Treehouse had this track only to now see that it no longer offers it! Wow this is frustrating and quite silly! I guess I will be canceling my trail version now!

41,171 PointsThis is really disappointing. Why not leave the courses up for people who are already taking them? And remove them from view from new users.

523 PointsI think retiring this really hit a bad place -- wordpress is a great career launching point for many.

6,641 PointsI'm with the others who commented here. I'm really disappointed that these are not being replaced by updated versions. I completed a number of other courses in order to prepare to work on the Wordpress Development track - while I've been frustrated with the number of aspects of the course that are out of date I have been working my way through with plans to retake once it is updated.

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsNot great news but not unexpected! I'm sad because the WordPress content was some of the most useful content to be so far during my time at Treehouse but hasn't had an active teacher for it for a few years. Life goes on though and we will all go on. :)

2,465 PointsI am with the others here, its pretty annoying that we're not able to locate utilise these resources anymore. I was planning to do the wordpress course after I finished off the front end track.. Looks like udemy can take my money now.

15,058 PointsI wish they'll add WordPress to treehouse again.

55 PointsI signed up specifically for WordPress development. Guess I'm heading on over to Udemy!

11,223 PointsI guess WordPress isn't a "21st Century Skill" then. My company still uses it though.

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsI was just thinking maybe a kind of "catch all" WordPress course could be created under the PHP banner since it is driven largely by PHP. WordPress seems to have fallen out of favour with Treehouse over the years but if we can learn Laravel with Treehouse we must be able to do the same with WordPress too even if it's not it's own topic as it used to be. :-)
conflictingcode
11,223 PointsYeah that sounds like a pretty easy solution. I was going to take PHP courses after finishing the Full Stack JavaScript track anyway. Hopefully the WordPress course will exist by then!
George Bell III
15,058 PointsI'm happy you said that. I would rather have Wordpress than the 21st Century Skills

7,764 PointsI agree with Hayden. I was also going through this courses, as I am a WordPress developer myself. I understand they are out of date, but why are they not replaced with new versions then?
Steven Parker
231,184 PointsI'm guessing you haven't heard yet about the major changes that started with Layoffs at Treehouse this week.
Ash J
9,774 PointsThat's really disappointing. I just joined and started learning from scratch as I want to be a WordPress expert. I was hoping that you'll come up with more relevant courses like Woocommerce, but you're shutting it down. 😥
Jonathan Grieve
Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsHi there Ash,
It’s been a while since WooCommerce content was available on Treehouse (which may have been deleted as it was not up to date) but if you contact Treehouse support it might be worth asking if they still have those videos available as downloads. help@teamtreehouse.com
Additionally the WordPress tracks are still available for a short time, you can download as many videos as you csn from those pages while the videos are still up. :) .
Ash J
9,774 PointsThanks, Jonathan. I'll email the support team.

3,439 PointsHi Errin,
I was really disappointed by this too. I found that Zac (the instructor) has a Wordpress development course offered on Udemy called Complete Wordpress Development Themes and Plugins. It's not exactly the same, but it seems to teach comparable information. I decided to purchase that course since Treehouse stopped offering the Wordpress courses. So if you're not sure where to go from here, that could be an option worth checking out.

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 56,501 PointsYou should check out LinkedIn Learning. I just discovered it and its great.

Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsI can tell you right here and right now that the code you learned in the WordPress Theme Development course alone is not worthless. It has helped me out in a real-world project to this very day! It's just that Treehouse currently has no plans to update the content and while the code doesn't necessarily date the content does, unfortunately.
Isabella Chen
626 PointsIt's not worthless! Wordpress core hasn't really changed much and a lot of the stuff on TT can still be ported over. I made a theme a plugin with the latest version of WP based on these videos, so the content is still relevant.
katelynhw
3,439 PointsThis is really disappointing. I was halfway through a Wordpress course. I had paused my Treehouse subscription because I got too busy to keep up with it, but I just activated my subscription again only to find the Wordpress course I wanted to finish is gone! I would rather have these Wordpress courses still available to access (even if the info is a bit outdated), than not have them at all.
Jonathan Grieve
Treehouse Moderator 91,253 PointsHi Katelyn,
I believe if you email Treehouse support they will be able to send you the videos you require to complete your what you were doing, even if you won’t have the code challenges and quizzes. Good luck and I hope you find what’s you need.

3,439 PointsThanks for the suggestion, Jonathan! I reached out to Treehouse support, but they weren't able to send me the videos. It was a good idea though!

4,130 PointsDoes anyone know WHY Wordpress was cancelled? Are Treehouse suggesting more appropriate alternatives to blogging solutions? I'd be keen to get advice on where people recommend building and hosting a blogging platform (that is not Medium). Thanks

231,184 PointsThere were major changes in company focus and direction during the week of June 8. See the links in comments to this question left around that time for references to threads with more details.

7,461 PointsThis is really disappointing. I was working my way through these courses a few months back and have returned to refresh my knowledge - and now they're just gone? Why not simply add a disclaimer that the course content is out of date, but leave the videos up for those who need to refer to them? Now I'm not sure where to turn.

8,621 PointsIs there any chance the wordpress is coming back?
Rob Allessi
8,600 PointsWordPress is still accessible via tracks during this time (until they are officially retired on July 6th):
Alan McClenaghan
Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 56,501 PointsNot anymore. The listings are still on the Tracks page but when you click into them there are no courses available. Treehouse should really remove the whole thing. The Wordpress listing in the Library section is also blank.
Grzegorz Kozdroj
519 Pointswow thanks, I guess I'll be moving on then, thx....

3,999 PointsThis is not great news. I have personally found these courses to be incredibly valuable and a necessity in my current job role where I will be going into WordPress development. Although it may be seen that the course content is out dated, it still provided me with a great detail of knowledge and direction to build upon. If other resources on the subject could be recommended, outdated or not, then could someone suggest some. Please note I am referring to high quality, well structured visual aids, not things like the codex which I know are valuable, but sometimes having something explained on video understanding what you are going through is just what the doctor ordered.
