19,836 PointsSounds like a difficult choice. If you really are that worried about someone stealing your idea, your options are to do it yourself as you mentioned (which is potentially very time consuming), or hire a developer but make sure you legally cover yourself, which may entail legal council.
Ultimately though, the choice is probably up to how unique your idea is and how much time you have. Can you afford to train yourself to do it and maybe let a year pass, or is the chance that someone will come up with that idea or implement it before you do too big?
Maybe start taking the WP course, and try to go full on for about a week, and then see where you are and what's reasonable to you?
