Reading in images from a directoy to an ArrayList

How to I read in images from a image folder to an array list? I've been looking at this for two days now and haven't found a solution.

ArrayList<ImageIcon> images = new ArrayList<>();
File fileImages = new File("/images");
for(File f : fileImages){
     images.add(f); //throw error
}
