10,781 PointsRails vs Java for a web application
I am looking at developing a basic accounting web application - similar to Wave Apps, Xero etc - but I am getting thrown off about what language is best for web development (I realize that there isn't one specific best language).
I understand that in terms of enterprise software Java is the most powerful but then again looking at the existing software built on Rails, I don't see how it can be that much worse?
So if this is coming from practically no experience - which would be easier / more efficient to learn.
Thanks :)

24,063 PointsI don't have experience with Rails but i can tell you Java is a beast, especially if you're coming from little experience.
I know rails can be used for web applications though so that would probably be your best bet in terms of total programming time and learning curve.
