When I follow his exact typing using ' Wow you're' and using 'if you are a confident reader...' as shown in the video Python Basics comparisons, it replies with a syntax error.
Removing the contraction and the elipse solves the problem. Why does it work for him to use such punctuation, but not me?

231,269 PointsYou forgot to provide a link to the video, but I'd guess the video uses double quotes to surround the string, which would prevent the conflict with the apostrophe (aka "single quote") inside.
