Facebook for example only hires full stack developers who know the entire programming process from hardware, web, and mobile, to business operations. They say that employees who have a broad understanding of other disciplines will be better able to design their code in a way that makes sense for others programmers. ie: your web design team creates sites with mobile in mind, and your mobile design team is consistent with marketing strategies, and everyone is happy.
