Password Issue with Terminal when installing MySQL Workbench config file

Hi, I am trying to install the MySQL Workbench config file using Terminal for this video https://teamtreehouse.com/library/database-foundations/installing-mysql-server-and-mysql-workbench/installing-mysql-server-and-workbench-on-os-x.

After typing the sudo cp /usr/local/mysql/support-files/my-default.cnf /etc/my.cnf statement, Terminal prompts for a password.

Terminal will not accept either my user password nor the root admin password. (The computer is set up for several users with a root admin user).

I would appreciate assistance to learn how to resolve this item.

Following is the Terminal script:

user1-mbp:~ N$ sudo cp /usr/local/mysql/support-files/my-default.cnf /etc/my.cnf
