output in jshell for game.applyGuess('o')

I'm getting this output upon the execution of the above code:

jshell> game.applyGuess('o');
java.lang.NullPointerException thrown:
at Game.applyGuess (#1:14)
at (#4:1)

How to rectify this? I have implemented the exact same code given in the video
