Old Dog, New Tricks! - Treehouse is darn cool!

Hi Everyone,

More of a 'Hello!' here than a question.

I've actually worked in IT for 25+ years. Started inC programming, Lotus Notes and then Java.

Unfortunately, I lost my love of programming about 10 years ago :-( and moved into Delivery / Project Management. It was a fun/hard high-pressure gig, but I've realised as the years have gone on, that I've been missing programming more and more.

I've MISSED the creativity of it. The ability to design and code. It's still in my blood !!!

The beauty and satisfaction of coding something again I now crave.

The issue is, the IT world has moved quickly and my skills are effectively out of date. Geez, when I was doing HTML work, there was no such thing as third party JS libraries and fancy html5 tags. Responsive design? Didn't exist!!!

I have so much to learn. I searched the web for some relevant training courses and for years I've been watching Treehouse out the corner of my eye. A quick check and without hesitation I've signed up. Back to basics for me and getting up to speed with the Frond End Developer course and then the Full-Stack course. and then IOS development and then .... You get the idea :-)

I've already read numerous posts in the forum here and I can see it's a great place to be.

Thanks all and I look forward to talking to you soon!

Brilliant! Welcome to Treehouse! I've been here for nearly 3 years and I can vouch that the teaching is quality, a professional standard and the staff work hard behind the scenes to make sure the content stays relevant. Hopefully they'll strengthen your love of coding even further :)

Hiya Jonathan,

Thanks for the lovely reply my friend, really appreciate it :-)

3 years hey? Nice work. A look at all the courses and think, wow, where should I start? I've been very tempted to jump into the newer stuff but decided to start from scratch again.

I'm so GLAD I did. Working through the front end developer stuff at the moment and through Guil's CSS basics training has been highly beneficial.

Stuff that you can do in CSS now compared to 15 years ago is amazing, so much better!

I wonder how many past programmers are here and getting stuck into learning again? I work all day and then do on average about 2 to 3 hours a night. LOVING it!
