Not sure what im doing wrong...

pretty sure it's something to do with the indents of my code yet i've tried indenting many different ways to the point where im confusing myself even more... pls help someone!

trial.py 
def add(x, y):
    try:
    x = float(x)
    y = float(y)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
    return(x + y)

Good guess, and you were very close. The code in a "try", "except' or "else" block must be indented one stop more to show that it is part of that block:

def add(x, y):
    try:
        x = float(x)
        y = float(y)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return x + y
