I am not sure what to do. This seemed like it would work by using the ID name to get the element input.
var inputValue= document.getElementById('linkName');

You are almost there. The challenge is asking to assign the value
of the input element to the inputValue
variable.
document.getElementById('linkName')
would return the input element and its attribute
<input type='text' id='linkName'>
In order to return the input value you have to add .value
at the end of what you had before.
document.getElementById('linkName').value
