Not really a question. I want everyone to know he is using Android Studio 3.0 and not the stable version which is 2.3.

Actually, I was embarrassed because I couldn't find the 'kotlin support' checkbox. And later I got noticed that it was because the versions of android studio were different. Thank you for your information!

Great thought calling this out! I'll get a note about it in the Teacher's Notes as well. We try to make our courses as future-proof as possible. So rather than rerecord everything when 3.0 is finally stable, we opted to start with 3.0. Though it is taking a lot longer than I thought it would to become the stable release.

This is also the link to the official tutorial on how to set up kotlin with android studio, especially useful for versions prior to 3.0. Might consider adding it in the teacher's notes, at least until 3.0 gets officially released which I guess won't be that long now :).
