18,846 PointsThe console.readLine gets whatever the user types in which is a string, so do the following: String response = console.readLine("Do you understand do while loops?"); This gets the response and stores it in the response variable. Hope this help!

28,694 PointsJames South is correct. console object is of type java.io.Console. readline method accepts argument of prompt and returns the line of text the user enters. To use the text returned, it makes sense to assign it to a variable.
