3,302 PointsNo clue why this code is not working for the Handling Exceptions challenge!
Here is my code. Is there something I am missing with this code?
public class Example { public static void main(String[] args) { GoKart kart = new GoKart("yellow"); if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) { System.out.println("The battery is empty"); } try { kart.drive(2); } catch (IllegalArgumentException e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); } } }
public class Example {
public static void main(String[] args) {
GoKart kart = new GoKart("yellow");
if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
System.out.println("The battery is empty");
}
// wrap potentially dangerous code in the try block
try {
kart.drive(2);
}
// catch an illegal argument exception e and use e to get the message
catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
}
}
}
class GoKart {
public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
private int barCount;
private String color;
private int lapsDriven;
public GoKart(String color) {
this.color = color;
}
public String getColor() {
return color;
}
public void charge() {
barCount = MAX_BARS;
}
public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
return barCount == 0;
}
public boolean isFullyCharged() {
return MAX_BARS == barCount;
}
public void drive() {
drive(1);
}
public void drive(int laps) {
if (laps > barCount) {
throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains");
}
lapsDriven += laps;
barCount -= laps;
}
}

looks to be the requirement.
Hi Bernard, your code is correct. However, the value of 2
that you are supplying to the drive()
method is too small to actually throw the IllegalArgumentException
, since MAX_BARS
is 8
to begin with. Just use a big enough number to cause the exception to be thrown.

42,386 PointsActually I think I'm wrong in my reasoning, trying to understand this problem.. the value passed in has to be 42
, it can't be any lower or higher.
