I've been seeing more an more website migrate to this layout where the you narrate vertically down the page. I suspect the theory behind this technique is that it keeps the visitor enguaged by making them curious about what the next section holds. Can someone elaborate on this technique, its name, theory, permis, goal, etc? Example: http://why.az/

3,557 PointsI don't really know the answer to your question but it seems to me that this design paradigm is a mobile-first approach. These long scrolling pages are very easy to browse on a phone compared to sites that have many pages linked by navigation.

32,520 PointsI did a bit more research on the subject. It definitely resembles that of a mobile app (vertically oriented). In my opinion its more of a carousel. In this case its vertical (vertousel?). The control and mechanics aside i'm more interested in the deep underlying intent of using this type of approach. I did some preliminary tests on a select number of subjects but it seems to be that visitors in general are more inclined to click through out of curiosity with the type of layout as apposed to being bombarded with the entire stack of content being presented on a single page. The psychology underlying this behavior might be worth more investigation.
