I do struggle with imposter syndrome especially since I'm trying to get my first job in tech. I combat this by getting feedback and encouragement from network connections and mentors. Also by studying and gaining more knowledge as a lifelong learner!

I'm new to learning JS so I am have a roller coaster of emotions regarding imposter syndrome. One day I'm studying, and I feel that what I'm learning is connecting, and then I receive a coding challenge and I feel like I've never touched a computer. LOL! I get out of those feelings by reminding myself that my learning journey is a marathon and not a sprint, and I'm in the infancy of learning how to become a greater developer.

For the longest time I've had the wrong perceptions on math. I had a math phobia. In the past I dislike math only because I had poor self image in my own abilities to master mathematics and I didn't have the motivation or support from my peers to enable me to be confident in mastering it.

Now my perception has changed. I like that doing math problems creates new neural pathways and expands cognitive capabilities in the brain.

I love the learning process and find joy in the challenge of it.

I do experience imposter syndrome. I don't have a traditional cs background and have built a career out of compliance and audit. Transitioning into a career in web development from a non-traditional background seems daunting, at times, and have wondered about how to deal with imposter syndrome once I land a job.

Hello there, my name is Brock Lynch. I'm 32 years old and I have a lot of hobbies, which mostly revolve around computers or science.

I can definitely say that I have struggled with impostor syndrome. I think it's easy to do with software development because there is an intangible quality to it. One thing that has recently helped me feel like I've achieved something, was working on a proof-of-concept project I dubbed Machine Learning Gloves. It allowed me to marry a lot of my different hobbies and interests together into something tangible I could hold in my hands.

Especially during the pandemic I have been a real homebody and not been getting out too much. But before the pandemic I enjoyed getting out and going to the theatre once in a while.

I know I am late to the party and this was the thread from last week, but it is relevant to how I have recently felt, so I hope nobody minds my delayed post.

My name is Alexandra (or you can call me Nyanko). Recently I "jumped into the fire" with web development after going on strike as a teacher with my company from unsafe working conditions, then eventually quitting.

I decided to try to utilize my old degree in web development from 2002 and my blend that somehow with my fine arts degree and background. With a 19-year gap from finishing my web development degree to now, at times I felt overwhelmed and incompetent. I feel I am finding my way through it all finally, but it was like trying to find the right hiking trail in complete darkness at times.

Even art, that I had more recent experience in felt difficult and I had lost my way with that too with a complete creative meltdown.

All this while still feeling new in Japan, even though I have lived here for a little more than a year now.

The "imposter syndrome" feelings are much like what Brené Brown talked about in her TedTalks and books. If you haven't seen or read them, I highly recommend them.

Anyways, thank you for giving me a space to share my recent experience even though it is a week late.

I hope to connect with more coding people to feel less alone when I hit difficult points in projects and I hope I can do the same for others who are in a similar situation!
