How are you finding the freelance world? It seems a bit intimidating to get started in. Freelancing was my original goal, but I'm not sure anymore.
Also, what board games are at the top of your list? I'm always on the lookout for more. Haha
Josh Date
Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 17,973 PointsHey Clinton nice to meet you as well! Iām finding freelancing ok, I like it so far and Iām currently trying to get used to it.
It is intimidating as you mentioned and Iām still trying to not feel that way at times when talking to potential clients.
If you still want to do it Iād say try it out, itās a great way to build projects and showcase your skills even if youāre not comfortable with your skills at the moment.
I love Chess, Monopoly and Risk as board games.
Clinton Hays
Front End Web Development Techdegree Graduate 18,156 PointsThanks for the reply, Josh!
How did you find your first gig?
Also, Risk is a classic. Love it!

Maria Paula Andrade
Python Development Techdegree Graduate 8,297 PointsJosh Date both have been very challenging lol. I am enjoying the fact that I am being able to solve problems and slowly but surely improve my skills, but it's not been a piece of cake. Ive been doing it for a couple of months now so I guess there's a learning curve right? Not giving up though!

Khalil Abdellah
11,065 PointsHey everyone!
I'm a SQL = Super Quick Learner. jk...... unless?
I graduated from Temple for Marketing in August, and am now teaching myself web development.
I would like to work in User Experience design, since I love what I've read about design thinking and communication design (e.g. The Design of Everyday Things, Made to Stick). I think UX work would make use of my strengths and interests (ideation, design, research interviews, computer science). Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and UX for education and e-learning are points of research for me also.
Whatever I learn, I would like to work with a team for a couple years before going freelance, and working for myself.
I would love to learn OpenGL and three.js and start making 3D graphics. My love for them started with video games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Halo!!
I have been a visual artist (graphic design, pixel art and sprites) since I was young, and enjoy playing guitar, producing music, talking and writing about politics, and being a collaborative artist.
Here's my LinkedIn.
My current (and hopefully lifelong) project is an online multi-media publication and information hub. It will be built to foster community and civic engagement among interested parties in Philadelphia. I'm working on a web and mobile site to preview the format of the magazine, which I hope will be unique and effective in presenting the most critical, actionable information for local political engagement, in an easily retain-able way. The current (placeholder) blog is at cvnjournal.squarespace.com. Eventually, I'll be ready to post the demo for the actual publication. I've been using HTML, CSS, JS and jQuery to build it so far.
Peace!

I'm Somara, I first discovered code when I attended a STEM summer program in 6th grade. After that I did take some interest in it when I saw Karlie Kloss launch her bootcamp for girls in 2014/2015. But I was never encouraged to go into tech and in school I was never exposed to code. I am currently planning to transition to web development from working in fashion business. I have always taken an interest in tech and using software day to day to solve problems (as well as how software can help businesses expedite processes and spend more time on innovating elsewhere!) Although I am a beginner I have dipped my toes into SQL and Python as well (I was studying an online data science course before switching to front end web development).
You can connect with me on LinkedIn here! https://www.linkedin.com/in/somarason/ (currently searching for production or e-commerce based role in consumer goods/fashion).
I haven't been working on any projects outside of learning HTML, CSS, and Javascript on the Treehouse Front End Web Dev track.
In my free time you can catch me usually at the gym. I love to lift weights (if you saw me IRL you probably wouldn't guess that if I have a big coat on haha). I think it's fun to express myself using fitness and fashion which can seem like very opposite niches at times, considering I train in bodybuilding. I also recently started getting into playing Sims 4 again over lockdown, I watch a ton of Twitch Streams! I also draw and paint if I can find the time after coding.

Outside of Treehouse, I have a girlfriend and 3 awesome dogs, best in the world! I'm always in search of a fun time, so I also play guitar and write songs, I like to play video games, and before COVID happened, I loved outdoor activities like basketball, longboarding and hiking. Lastly, I'm a sports fanatic! Mainly basketball, American football, and baseball! my teams?
NBA: Los Angeles Lakers (and Clippers unless they play the Lakers haha)
NFL: Philadelphia Eagles (since '04)/Los Angeles Chargers (since move to LA)
MLB: Los Angeles Angels/Dodgers (both the same haha)
NCAA: UCLA Bruins (never attended, just liked to root against my mom and USC as a kid and it never changed š)

FEWD TD. I started this journey 11/14/20 so I'm super new. I'm not a stranger to coding, but it has been many years since I made an earnest effort to learn. I really excited about learning to code and looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I love watching all sports from around the world but my main passion is watch the National Football League(American football). My second passion is learning about data analytics. Data tells a story and especially if it's clean and visualized. I love to mess around with my garden.

Front End Web Development Techdegree Graduate 18,156 PointsHi there Jonathan Tucker!
Nice to meet ya! Good luck on your FEWD path, I really enjoyed it. I think we have similar interests in the tech world. I am trying to keep from spreading myself too thin, but I like the idea of merging analytics and frontend...seems like there is an overlap there that could be really beneficial in lots of aspects. I'm sure that's not a new idea, but it's new to me. Haha.
Happy coding!

Front End Web Development Techdegree Graduate 18,156 PointsSQL = Suboptimal Quantum Leap...very dangerous situation to find yourself in.
Hi all! I'm Clinton...been a while since I participated in one of these. I'm a recent graduate of the FEWD Techdegree. It has honestly given me a lot of hope for a future career. I'm currently working on learning React & Redux and struggling with a nagging and persistent case of imposter syndrome. Having a bit of trouble finding any positions that are truly entry level. But! I think something is just around the corner...just gotta keep on digging!
Connect with me on linkedin and github!
Here's my portfolio. Hoping to expand and improve it once I wrap my mind around React. Please feel free to give my any criticism or feedback! I'm an insatiable learner and learning only happens with an open mind.
My hobbies are pretty typical. I'm a gamer...more casually now than in my younger years, haha. I also enjoy good booze/cocktails and making delicious meals.
I hope everyone is enjoying their journey at Treehouse! Happy coding! Drop me a line. :)
Jonathan Tucker
Ubora | Web Development Techdegree Student 16,987 PointsHi Clinton Hays. Thank you for connecting. My first passion is data analytics and then I took a Java and R class in my graduate degree and fell back in love with coding. Deeper analytics work does involve a little programming such Python, but I'm not ready for that deep dive quite yet. I enjoy the Treehouse platform because it's a less intimidating and more user friendly way to learn the basics of coding.
My first step is to earn the FEWD TD. After earning the FEWD, I will earn the FSJS. I'm contemplating earning the PHP Dev because I'm unfamiliar with it. I will complete the process by earning the UX Des and Python TD.
Clinton Hays
Front End Web Development Techdegree Graduate 18,156 PointsJonathan Tucker yeah, I definitely agree about Treehouse, it's a great platform...I've tried several and it's the first one I've stuck with.
It sounds like you've got quite the plan laid out ahead of you, I wish you all the luck, friend. Your tenacity is making me want to start pursuing another TD. Haha!
