Keep pushing yourself! Next thing you know you'll be well inside that space you mean to reach. šŸ™

Hey! I'm Aliyah and I am working towards becoming a mobile app developer. I'm currently focusing on Android development then I plan on learning swift for iOS development. I don't have any screenshots for projects at the moment, but I am going through the Android track here on Treehouse. I plan on building a project on my own. I'm in the beginning parts of that now.

I'll be sharing my progress on my linkedin really soon. Connect with me there if you'd like! (https://www.linkedin.com/in/aliyah-watson/)

Outside of learning programming I am an artist. I love painting and creating designs and characters for various things. I haven't posted in a while but I'll be sharing some new projects on my Instagram in the near future. You can follow me on that too! (@gangsta.librarian)

See you all around the internet somewhere! Thanks!

Hi Aliyah! How are you liking the Android course? I've tried learning some mobile development, but the Java scared me away at first. I like to think I'll get back to it at some point though. BTW, I sent you a connection request on LinkedIn, just a heads up. Happy coding!

Hey Aliyah! Great to meet you. We're cheering you on and are excited to see what you build!

Marshall Ferguson Hey! I saw the request! Nice to meet you! I like the Android course a lot. The Java is daunting, but so worth it! Lucky for us Android learners, android development is focused on Kotlin right now which is a bit easier than Java. I'm just getting into kotlin myself so we'll see how it goes!

Ryan Mouser Thanks so much! I'll be posting a lot of updates soon. Stay tuned! :)

Aliyah Watson That's right! I can't believe I forgot about Kotlin, I remember hearing about it a while ago but haven't looked into it yet. I'll have to check that out at some point.

1) What's one new skill you want to learn? āœØ

I want to build awesome web applications while learning all I can about Information Security. I want to build applications because it is fun and rewarding to create tools and apps. I also want to stay on the forefront of technology so that I know how to keep myself safe as well as securing any information trusted to me (hopefully) in the future.

2) Introduction

I am a self-taught amateur developer, probably. Always feels weird giving myself a title or label. I have been a sales manager for many years and have learned so much from managing teams. I often turned to code thinking it could help me in my retail career. I was first exposed to the promises of programming when I took a bioinformatics course in college. I realized then that I should learn but never really had a strong push to actually putting myself on that path. Fast forward some years later and I had gone in and out of learning until late last year. I picked up a free book on programming with Python and never looked back. After completing the book I turned to TeamTreeHouse for the first time since 2016 to complete the Python beginner track. So far I have completed Beginner Python and am now at the end of the Flask track (Tacocat!!).

My plan is to finish with Flask and Intermediate Python and then get back onto the Front End Track. Or the Full Stack track, not sure... I just want to focus on building fun, appealing, yet secure and fast web applications!

I don't yet have a LinkedIn but I will share my other important links:

My website

(it's gone through more phases in its life than I)

My Github

(I just got into the github flow after a lesson here in Treehouse.)

Finding the Parent Company of a brand:

This is the first "not-that-easy" project for me. One day I remembered the Buycott app and wondered if I could replicate that on my own with the beginner knowledge I had attained. A couple of weeks ago I spent about two days putting together a program that would search the website of Buycott using it's own search function. The only info I wanted to pull out was the parent company for a brand. I did this without using their API because I couldn't afford to pay for that for a practice project. I got it to work when entering a name brand or even a UPC. Unfortunately, getting information from the site in this manner is a bit slow and unreliable. I could only get fair results by entering the name brand, the UPC search was more of a complication. I encourage you to give it a try and please contribute to any of my projects if you feel so inclined! Ask me if you want to know more about how I put it together. I also worked on making sure case didn't matter, reformatting in title case, and printing in an easy-to-read format. The program is run in terminal and I am not sure if I will work on that program any further as they do have their own app already.

5) Share your interests, hobbies, etc!

I started and now maintain an indoor herb garden for my family. I also grow edible mushrooms so that I always have fresh fungi on hand! I draw often, it really helps me unwind and has been a lifelong habit. I'm thinking of ways to enhance some hobbies with my new programming skills. A GUI tracker/journal for the fungi is something I'm mulling over for the future.

6) Hello!

Sorry for spilling text onto the screen like that! I hope we can all make huge strides in self-improvement this year. Good luck and good preparation to all!

Great to meet you! Best of luck with everything :)

A new skill I'm interested in is improving the skills I already have. Taking what I already have to the next level.

Hello all!

I'm Tyler and a recent graduate of the Front-End Web Development techdegree, and have learned through Treehouse since this past May. I am also a classically trained musician on trumpet.

So clearly I have an interest in music, also knowing how to play a few other instruments; I currently own a few guitars and native american flutes!

I am still continuing my front-end studies with the ReactJS track, and have an active Codepen Profile, in the middle of building a collection of UI Component Design Builds. My Github repos can be found here.

I would like to learn (really relearn!) and excel with Chess. That is certainly a major time commitment and a lot of brain power! :p

I also have a LinkedIn Profile now up-to-date and ready to go for job searching.

Thank you for reading!

Hi Tyler! Music is something I have always wanted to learn but never stuck with unfortunately. In your opinion, does that artistic talent influence your designing skills at all? Also, how did you like the techdegree? I've thought about doing one once I complete my bootcamp but I am still on the fence.

Hey Marshall!

There is certainly an influence. How I learned to play the instrument and improve upon my playing brought about the means to have an easier time learning this new material.

With no true previous experience with code, and coding like music in a way is an abstract activity, sometimes metaphors and similes work really well in understanding concepts. By that, I mean associating topics and skills to everyday activities you already do. The Treehouse videos do a good amount of this with the explanations accompanied by the funny cartoon animations. This idea alone has made the work easy to comprehend for the most part.

There is something to be said about music allowing me to be arguably more creative and have a higher degree of problem-solving skills; it's innate when trying to make a sound on a piece of metal or wood and make it sound amazing and dynamic! It's the exploration and experimentation in getting the most out of my instrument that allows me to fully understand the fundamentals in code to gain the most creativity within the problem-solving.

There is no reason to suggest that you need music to directly be a better learner of code (though it's nice to have to keep you relaxed and happy!), but if you have done any other physical or mental activity, you can always find similarities. Nothing is truly exclusive.

The Techdegree is the sole reason I chose treehouse. I wanted a flexible structure in completing all the work and end up with a portfolio through guidance to immediately turn to job searching with something already prepared to share. The Techdegrees provided exactly what I needed. Bonus is to the highly engaging Slack community with the Techdegree and the videos being thorough and open to sharing other resources.

Hey Tyler! Congrats on graduating with the FEWD Techdegree! Awesome that you're a musician as well.

Best of luck with everything!

Nice to meet you Tyler! I love codepen too. I haven't posted anything on there myself but I love looking at people's projects. Yours are really cool! I sent you a request on Linkedin too btw. :)

Thank you, Ryan!

And I'm glad you liked my work Aliyah. I received your LinkedIn request. :)

wow, your Codepen looks awesome. I never really explored that site before and I am impressed. I'm going to bookmark you! Also, you made me realize I need to get an account there! Good luck with everything!

Oh, have you ever programmed a Chess game? I imagine putting together a suitable opponent would be quite satisfying.

Hey mouseandweb! Thank you!

I never thought about building a chess board but that would be a definite consideration! Thank you for the thought. I do not know if I am far enough into JavaScript to understand how to make it function properly, but I am sure I'll find a plugin or discover some conditional statements should I do enough digging on it.

Happy coding to you!

Hey Tyler Pfledderer , I like all your designs on Codepen! I was in the same boat at the beginning of the quarantine with wanting to get better at chess. I use to play with someone every week to excel, if you ever want to play online sometime for practice and fun let me know.

Cheers, Alannah

Hey Adam! Nice to meet you. Best of luck with everything!

  1. I would like to learn more about the Python pandas library so I can expand my data analytics skillset
  2. Hello! My name is Marshall, and I am currently a student in the Code Louisville bootcamp program. Code Louisville uses treehouse for the curriculum, but honestly I was using this platform long before I had even heard of Code Louisville.
  3. Here is my LinkedIn profile. Feel free to send me a connection, I just ask that you include a message that you found me through his forum.
  4. Here is the GitHub repo for my Code Louisville project I'm just wrapping up. It takes a CSV file from a mobile workout app called FitNotes and outputs charts and visualizations using matplotlib
  5. My interests/hobbies include martial arts, exercising, reading, spending time with my significant other, and coding.

Hey Marshall! Great to meet you :)

Thanks for sharing your project! Very cool!

Best of luck! We're cheering you on.

Ryan Mouser Great to meet you as well!

The biggest task I have learned since I have joined has been time management. Hello everybody, my name is Justin Behringer I am currently working towards python. Hello, I'm currently a student at Eszterhazy Karoly University and will be graduating in June 2021. Treehouse is one resource that has greatly helped with my studies throughout my Bachelor's Degree program. I am part of a Data Science research group at my University and thus will like to become a full Data Scientist. I'm currently honing these new skills with the Data-Science Track.

For my final Bachelor Thesis, I developed an ML model that predicts the Gross Production Value of Agricultural products, given certain features and deployed it to Heroku https://sleepy-savannah-16591.herokuapp.com/

You can connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deji-adeyemo-7608b51b5/

Hi Deji! Nice to meet you. Best of luck on the Data Science track!

Hey everyone! I'm John Komarnicki, a Front End Techdegree graduate. I'm currently working as a Jr developer at a design agency. This would not be possible without the knowledge the Techdegree gave me.

One new skill i would love to learn more about is CSS custom animations!

https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-komarnicki/

More recently, in my free time, i've been working on some projects with Vue js, Which is a great framework to learn coming out of the Front End Techdegree, in my opinion. I actually took on a big project as a freelancer to build out a document library using this framework and firebase. It gave the client to ability to register/login and create organization for their documents. The client could create categories & sub categories, then upload documents and other information to them. There was also a admin portion i built to go along with it. It was a great learning experience and helped me grow so much as a developer.

In my free time, I've recently been starting to create content for web development on YouTube. Mainly content with HTML, CSS and JS. It has been something that has been a big passion since starting web development! You can check out my channel here! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr0D7PVNOHqB3Td7lVl_LKw

I'm in the metro Detroit area, too lol

I actually checked out one of your videos yesterday regarding a html form. I like your format and will be keeping up with the channel. Good luck with everything going forward!

Hey everyone!

I graduated from Temple for Marketing in August, and am now teaching myself web development.

I would like to work in User Experience design, since I love what I've read about design thinking and communication design (e.g. The Design of Everyday Things, Made to Stick). I think UX work would make use of my strengths and interests (ideation, design, research interviews, computer science). Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and UX for education and e-learning are points of research for me also.

Whatever I learn, I would like to work with a team for a couple years before going freelance, and working for myself.

I would love to learn OpenGL and three.js and start making 3D graphics. My love for them started with video games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Halo!!

I have been a visual artist (graphic design, pixel art and sprites) since I was young, and enjoy playing guitar, producing music, talking and writing about politics, and being a collaborative artist.

Here's my LinkedIn.

My current (and hopefully lifelong) project is an online multi-media publication and information hub. It will be built to foster community and civic engagement among interested parties in Philadelphia. I'm working on a web and mobile site to preview the format of the magazine, which I hope will be unique and effective in presenting the most critical, actionable information for local political engagement, in an easily retain-able way. The current (placeholder) blog is at cvnjournal.squarespace.com. Eventually, I'll be ready to post the demo for the actual publication.

Peace!
