400 PointsNetworking Thursday (10/1) – Connect with other Treehouse Students!
Hey Treehouse Students!
We're back with another Networking Thursday – giving you the opportunity to connect with other Treehouse Students!
Last week's networking session was great! If you have friends you'd like to invite to participate – please feel free to send them over!
💬 How to participate in Networking Thursday:
- Answer the icebreaker – fill in the blank: What's your dream job? ✨
- Introduce yourself!
- Share your LinkedIn profile URL for other students to connect to
- Share links and/or screenshots of the projects you've been working on
- Share your interests, hobbies, etc!
- Chat with other students here by responding to their posts!
Make those connections, support each other, leave some endorsements/recommendations on other student's LinkedIn profiles, lend a helping hand to folx in search of work in tech, and give some positive feedback on fellow student's projects. We're all on this learning journey together!
I'll kick things off! 💬
I'm Ryan Mouser, the Content & Community Marketing Specialist here at Treehouse. I was 15 years old when I started learning to code in PHP for a popular text-based MMORPG game. I've been with Treehouse for over 2 years now and have had the amazing opportunity to wear many different hats. I've been learning with Treehouse since 2015 (you can check out my previous profile here).
Currently, I'm working alongside our world-class team on some exciting opportunities to bring the Treehouse Community closer together. Stay tuned! 😀
Outside of Treehouse, I have the joy of living life with my incredible wife, our 3 awesome kids, and our 2 cat furbabies. We love to make music, garden, cook, play games, and watch fun TV (any Avatar: The Last Airbender fans out there?)
I have been fortunate to work in many dream jobs – here at Treehouse in various roles, as well as a Online Community Moderator, Vocal Coach, Music Producer, and the exciting businesses my wife and I have built together.
You can connect with me on LinkedIn here. Looking forward to connecting with y'all!
Happy networking! :)

Python Development Techdegree Graduate 8,297 PointsKENDRA WARD I applaud you on your pursuit of a new career and your willpower to learn new skills. I am also from the humanities and tech can seem a bit scary at times, but I am sure we can overcome the challenges. :)
Tia Mosley
Python Development Techdegree Student 4,068 PointsHey y'all!
My dream job is to just to be an awesome Freelance Software Developer (with a flexible schedule, and preferably remote).
I'm Tia and currently enrolled in the Python Techdegree. The only project I have under my belt so far is the Python Unit 1 Project so I'll skip that part :). I used to be in banking and finance before taking time off to fill the roles of housewife and supermom. During my time off, I've been fortunate to find that I really like coding. I've completed a SQL Bootcamp, earned a Pega Robotics System Architect certification and hopefully soon I'll be able to add this Python Techdegree.
I love playing video games (Borderlands 2 & 3 on PS4, lots of Nintendo Switch games, especially the oldies but goodies), watching comedies/zombie/action/thriller movies, my husband is getting me into some anime shows now, the outdoors, and watching my son compete in sports.
Good luck to us all in our coding endeavors!!

Damien Richcreek
5,527 PointsMy dream job would be an Tech Entrepreneur (Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc)
My name is Damien Richcreek and am currently a Manager for a Heavy Construction Equipment Rental Company based out of Oregon. I'm a United States Marine Corps Disabled Combat Veteran and have been training to become a Software Developer. I've trained primarily in the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript... but have been interested in Python, as well. I have recently started Treehouse under the Veteran's non-profit OperationCode, which helps Veteran's learn the great skill of programming.
You can find me on LinkedIn
I don't have any recent projects, but that will change. The following link is for my CodePen projects that I've completed in the past.
When I'm not programming, I enjoy learning new things, large or small. I also enjoy construction (Woodworking and Residential Construction), computer gaming, and spending time with my family.
I also enjoy helping people out, so if you need some help just reach out.
Ryan Mouser
400 PointsThank you for your service, Damien! It's great to meet you here. Best of luck with everything!
Vanessa Ng
4,055 PointsHi Team Treehouse community!
I’m Vanessa, a 26 year-old designer. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by all sorts of art - drawing, photography and graphic design. Each year, learning more in depths about each subject and challenging myself to broaden my horizons.
Currently, I am working towards a UI Designer role and have been doing The Daily UI Challenge, as well as learning as much as I can on here. You can look at my portfolio here.
Aside from design, I would consider myself as a polyglot enthusiast. I enjoy learning about other people’s cultures and languages, especially Spanish and Portuguese.
I would love to see what others have created and connect!
You can connect with me on my LinkedIn here.

Mel Rumsey
Treehouse ModeratorHey again Treehouse fam!
I'm Mel!
I am currently teaching myself to code full time after discovering my passion for Game Design and Development. My goal is to work at Blizzard on their World of Warcraft or Diablo team! If I don't make it there I intend on finding an inclusive, womxn empowering, large game studio and working on an MMO or RPG.
I post daily on LinkedIn so feel free to follow my coding journey. I would love to follow yours ^_^
Ryan Mouser
400 PointsHey Mel! Working for Blizzard would be awesome for sure! MMOs and MMORPGs are definitely fun to work for! Best of luck.
Tunde Babs
3,976 PointsHi all,
I salute your efforts and aspirations. I'm studying to be a front end web developer. I am currently taking the FEWD track, after which I plan to transition to the FEWD tech degree, mostly for assistance in portfolio building, because I seem to have no direction. That said, my ultimate goal is to be a Vue.js and React developer. Which I plan to learn concurrently while doing my tech degree, if possible.
I am open to meeting up with anyone from anywhere in Southern California for meetups and exchange of ideas :)
Ryan Mouser
400 PointsNice to meet you, Tunde! Best of luck on your learning journey!
Zane Chandy
Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 19,328 PointsMy dream job is anything that has the words "Engineer" or "Scientist" in it just so I can brag about being a nerd lol xD
Hello! My name is Zane and I currently work for an Amazon DSP (not programming-related) in Fort Pierce, FL. I completed my Full Stack JavaScript techdegree program in 2019 and have been building my portfolio, studying and networking ever since. I am a student at Indian River State College and studying to get my A.A in Computer and Information Sciences but at the moment I took a pause but I'm hoping to return very soon.
I did land my first client thanks to the knowledge I've received from achieving my techdegree and plan on freelancing some more!
My LinkedIn is available here and my portfolio is here!
I'm still debating on taking either the Junior Web Dev route or Freelancing route. Does anyone have advice? Please share and thanks in advance :)
When I'm not coding, working, or studying I like to read, play video games, make music, volunteer, exercise, draw, solve puzzles, and meditate.
Wishing you guys the best on your journeys!
Ryan Mouser
400 PointsNice to meet you, Zane! Congratulations on graduating the FSJS Techdegree and landing your first freelancing client! There are perks to taking either route. Becoming a traditional Junior Web Developer will give you even more real-world experience to add to your tool belt and the industry-cred to apply to your freelancing efforts in the future.
Hope that helps! Best of luck 😀
Liz Jackson
Treehouse Guest TeacherHi everyone! My name is Liz, and I work at Treehouse on the marketing team. I am currently studying full stack through the FSJS Techdegree and really loving it.
Here is my LinkedIn. Please connect! My latest project was Beyonce themed and I found it to be challenging but very fun.
I am a classical flute player and love listening to/playing classical lit, especially Mozart as well as the Impressionists. Playing through pieces like this gives me a solid high and is really energizing for me. (Carmen Fantasie performed by Jasmine Choi in the link!)
Like Ryan, I also love ATLA and can probably be found consuming ATLA related content in my free time! ;) I also love to run and think its a great way to get to know where I live.
Reach out at any time!
Leanne He
Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Student 6,779 PointsHi there! My dream job is to be a software developer at a scale-up focused on tackling the climate crisis! Actually, I would also love to be a project manager at such a software development team. The 'tackling the climate crisis/making the world a better place'-part is definitely a must though :)
My name is Leanne, 26yo, from the Netherlands. I graduated a couple of years ago with a master's degree in (social) economics. Once I started working I discovered that while I love the topics (social) economists work with, I was not loving the skill set I was working with. Time to adjust course! I only recently started the Full Stack Javascript techdegree here but I have loved every minute of it :) In my spare time, I love to dance, draw, paint and sing.
Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn!

12,447 PointsHi Tia and Adya,
Consider joining https://100women.org/membership/. They have a great community, members jobs board and networking opportunities.
Tia, if you don’t already use https://www.dice.com/; and https://womenreturners.com/returners/retraining-courses/ they might be of interest.
Adya, if you haven’t already read Liar’s Poker, it’s a good book that gives an overview of aspects of the banking and finance industry.
Also, depending on what area of banking you want to get into, it never hurts to know what options are: https://www.optionseducation.org/videolibrary.
I hope this helps.

1,042 PointsThank you so much! I will look into it :)
Adis Podbicanin
625 PointsHello everyone! My name is Adis (Add-dis) I'm 28. My entire family was born in Bosnia but we moved here when I was 8 or 9. If I could have any job, and I didn't have to worry about the demand for it, money, etc I would love to be a writer. A mixture of writing my own books, and writing for tv/movies. I'm currently learning the front end side of coding but do want to dabble on the back end as well. I realized how much time I was spending looking at facebook on my phone that I felt like I could use it for something productive. I took a coding/programming class in high school but didn't really care for it, and didn't think it was in my interest. I realized now that it was the teacher that made that experience bad. I don't have anything I'm working on but do plan on starting once I'm comfortable. I'm also a furdad, and a lizard-dad as well. Penelope is a pure bred German Shepherd that I rescued, and Artemis is a blue tongued Skink.
Hobbies/Interests: Writing. I like reading as well but trying to find the time to do it is hard. Video games. Currently bought the new Crash Bandicoot game but taking a break from it because I kept dying. Baking/Cooking. In my spare time I make hot sauces. Photography. Also into anime, horror films, and tv shows. Basically anything that allows me to be creative, or make something I'll most likely enjoy it.
Sorry for being 2 days late.
Vanessa Ng
4,055 PointsHi Adis,
Glad to hear you are getting back into coding! If you haven't already, I would definitely recommend taking the Front End Web Development Track. It does a great job explaining HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
I have also created a list of resources for you to check out:
- Books - HTML & CSS: Designing and Building Web Sites and JavaScript & jQuery: Interactive Front-End Development
- Practice - Codepen , Brackets and GitHub
Best of luck to you :)

5,126 PointsHi, My name is Kendra. I am a 36 year-old married mother of two (a stay at home mom). I am on treehouse to learn how to code in hopes of becoming a front end web developer.
I have no experience in coding. I have a B.A. in English and that's it, lol.
All of this is very scary to me. I've never networked. I also feel like I'm jumping into the deep end trying to start a new career. But, I know how to float.
Sorry if all of this is random.
