i tried placing the <nav> element but every time the answer is being shown incorrect. why?

Treehouse TeacherHi there! Remember the "link in the header" is everything inside the <a></a> tags. So your nav is not after the link... it's before Take a look:

<a href="index.html"> <!-- beginning of link -->

</a> <!-- end of link -->
<nav>
<ul></ul>
</nav>
</header>
