yes, chars have a numerical value and are ordered. This allows < and > . However, under a lot of circumstances, you might want to do some string processing (for example to make all characters the same case) prior to doing this comparison. Here, assuming that the first character is a capital, you can do things quite simply. And just a reminder, character literals use single quotes.
