Maybe I need a review, but question on data argument

I have a question on the generateHTML. How can we pass the data if defined in the scope of the AJAX function? data is not a global variable.

Typically, the function that collects the data will pass it on to another function to deal with it. An example in this video is "generateHTML" which takes data as an argument and displays it on the page.
