i set the max with property with suitable value but it is not working

Try selecting the 'wrapper' with a lowercase 'w' in your css like below. This will fix it!

    max-width: 940px;

'W' in css is uppercase while the 'w' in html is lowercase. Remember most of these languages are case sensitive. Hope this helps.
