Little bit overwhelmed

Hello everyone!

I am starting feeling a little bit lost with all the information. I am currently on the CSS part (webfonts) and I already think is a lot to remember. Some people said that practicing will help you to retain all the concepts but I don't even know where to start.

Do you guys have any advice for people who like me.

Thank you very much!

As the teacher says towards the end of the css course, you are not expected to remember every css properties and value there is. What is important though, is to get a solid understanding of the concepts, it is your job as a web developer to be curious and have a constant intrigued mind, you have been given the resources to find the information about css properties and things you want to know about. It is far too much to remember everything, however you should practice what you are learning into bite sized chunks. Make a project on what you are learning about and keep expanding on it with the new things you see and learn.

Hi Jaime!

Yeah! I will start doing that in order to get more comfortable with all these concepts and technics! I really appreciate your advice!

Thank you!

Happy coding!

Jorge

As long as you understand the Why's and How's of each line of code, the What's (Remembering every single css property, value, etc) will take care of itself with enough practice and repetition. As SeHyun mentioned, taking good notes helps. In addition, it will be very helpful if you build a personal website from scratch (as you already mentioned) that applies everything you've learned so far. It doesn't have to be perfect or look very appealing, as long as you apply what you have learned to your fingertips. Think of that website as your, "Sandbox," or a playground where you code away freely!

Hi Jorge,

Be reassured that it’s normal to feel overwhelmed or lost. As you progress throughout the course, little by little you’ll retain the concepts.

I would advise you to take notes on each course. It’s nice to have a journal that you can look back to if needed. It takes the stress out of trying to remember everything.

Yes, practice makes perfect. The more you practice the less you’ll have to consult your notes.

Good luck! Lisa

I think the thing to remember is don't try to remember everything. It is more important to learn to google search or ask people right questions.

Hi SeHyun,

Yeah, I think every time I want to start a project my mind goes blank and I just keep looking at the screen trying to think on how to start. For example: What should I write first and after, and if the code is right.

Thank you for the advice!

Jorge

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am also kind of overwhelmed when I was copy-and-paste all those fonts URLs; however, as mentioned by other TD students, first we just need to understand how it works at this stage. Let's keep moving!

Personally I have a similar problem remembering most of the information I've seen, but i think for me it's to do with practising often. I am learning more now but i believe getting a new printer helped massively, and i cannot say just how much difference it has made. I download my workspace html and css etc and read it at home when away from the computer.
