why doesnt craig exaplain on how he uses the list inside the map... i didnt even know that i could use the list inside a map.. he should have explain it in the map part....

A map is a list of keys and values, those keys and values can be represented by ANY Object. it can be list, map, pattern, char, you name it.
I strongly suggest reading through https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/collections/interfaces/map.html there you can find examples and some questions to make sure you understand it correctly. Additionally you can always check Stackoverflow or youtube :)))
