General Discussion

learning

I just wanted to know what most people do to aid them in learning fast/more effectively in treehouse. Do you watch all the videos then go back and code along or watch and code? Do you do the challenges after you watch the video or watch all the videos in the segmented course then do the challenges? I would just like some helpful tips to help me be a little more effective with learning and not have a brute force mentality. I want to enjoy learning.

Hi Gregory,

This differs from person to person. Here are a couple of methods, see if any of them suits you better than the rest:

  • Watch the videos and do the code challenges/quizzes all as they come, after finishing the course you create something using the skill you learned.

  • Watch the videos, but pause often to take notes that help you learn. After finishing the course, create something with your new skill.

  • Watch the videos and after every video, pretend to explain what you learned to someone else to see if you understand it yourself. (You don't need anyone else per se, just speak to yourself as if there actually was someone listening to you)

  • Watch the videos and code along, pausing as you need to keep up. Try different values in the code and see what happens.

You could, of course, mix these things up and create your own method for learning. I hope any of this helps.

Have fun!

Jonas
