My friend lives in Japan and his designs are sometimes taken and used on other sites or apps without his permission. I took the copyright course here on treehouse but for the DMCA it is a US thing. While the copyright is being infringed in one country, it was made while my friend lives in japan as a resident of japan. If my friend wanted to take some sort of action and send something like a DMCA notice to a website how could he do it?

Treehouse Guest TeacherHey, Daniel! Great question. James is on the right track. Your friend might be in Japan, but that doesn't mean there's nothing he can do about it. First thing's first, just writing to the site with the infringing content on it and asking nicely for them to take it down can often do the trick. Depends on the size of the site, but sometimes folks just don't know any better and are happy to comply.
But if they don't respond or are just jerks or whatever, he can probably get the site's hosting company to play hardball for him. If he does a Whois search, he can find out who's hosting the site and find the right email address to send DMCA takedowns to.
Hope that helps!
