Your code should end up looking something like this:

<li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
<li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
<li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
</ul>
</nav>
If you post your code I can see why the compiler is complaining.

938 PointsThat happened to me. I was sure I did it exactly, but in the end, after looking at the video, pausing it and comparing, I had misplaced the </a>. Just compare your code to the video's or to Steve's below.
