Is the authentication provider for OpenID the same as the server?

Probably a stupid question but I'm new to this. Thanks

Hi Maddie,

I'm not sure which server you are referring to, but I'm going to assume you mean your server for whatever web service/application you are developing.

If so, no.

The authentication provider is one of the "OpenID providers".

When you implement OpenID as a developer, visitors to your service will give you a URL to their chosen OpenID provider, and a user ID. You redirect the visitor to their URL, passing a URL back to your site which the OpenID provider will redirect back to you when they authenticate the user.
