Java Java Objects (Retired) Creating the MVP Comparing Characters

Is my syntax correct - if so what goes in it to return different lines

.

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java
public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
    if(lastName > 'A' && <'N') {

    }else {

    }

    int line = 0;
    return line;
  }

}

I would do the if statement like this:

if(lastName.charAt(0) < 'N')

All you need to do is if the if statement equals true set line equal to 1 else set it equal to 2. Then return line right before the method closing curly brace .

The condition should be written as

lastName.charAt(0) >='A' && lastName.charAt(0) <= 'N'
