5,755 PointsIs it required to purchase a domain name & web hosting to complete the "How to make a Website"?
The track I'm on is 'How to make a Website'. The basic website is completed, html & css pages done, and now the instructor is walking us through buying a domain name & website hosting. Is it necessary to do so to complete the course?
this question is directed towards the instructors, but I'll take an answer from anyone
Thanks

Good question. To complete the course you do not need to buy a domain name and hosting. These pieces of the course are provided because you will need a domain name and hosting when you want to showcase your website(s) to the internet.
For course completion, they are not required.

You can usually find domains on sale for less than 5 dollars, so long as you don't mind a .net or something other than .com.
It is a good learning experience to upload a site to a server. Using a FTP client and FTP login can be a challenge at times. Also, learning how to set up your Cpanel so that your site functions the way you expect (though this is more for if you start doing some PHP)
Good luck.

2,296 PointsAs Garret said for course completion there is no need to buy domain name or any host. but sooner or later as a web designer or developer you need to purchase them and offer your website to your customers. So maybe it is the time to buy and test your basic and simple pages on it. Practice makes perfect.

5,755 PointsThank you all for your help. I can see where having a domain name & hosting now could be of assistance. I will take it under advisement.
