is git similar to plastic?

Plastic SCM is something I don't have a lot of experience with, but I can tell you it's a proprietary (read: not free) source control system that looks to be targeted at enterprise users. From what I can tell it's an attempt to bring a lot of the concepts that came from Git and other more recent version control systems to users that are comfortable with more enterprise-driven solutions like Perforce.

Like I said, I haven't really used Plastic, so I can't comment on whether it's easier to learn than git or not... but I do still think Git is worth learning, for the following reasons:

• Git has the widest adoption rate of any version control system out there, so knowing how to work with it will almost certainly be useful to you at some point in your career;
• Git is lightweight and free; you'll never have to worry about licensing schemes and server installations are often unnecessary;
• From what I can tell looking at Plastic, because it borrows a lot from Git, a lot of the core concepts you'll learn about version control while learning Git will still be applicable if you transition over to learning Plastic at some point. Further, you'll have the information you need to compare and contrast the two tools and decide which is right for you.
