Is buying a server mandatory in order to practice coding with Treehouse?

I watched a video from Nick, and I was just curious if this is mandatory.

For html and css, you don't need any server, in fact most of the work can be done on their workspace platform that they usually provide after each of their videos (where you can follow along and code). For server side languages like PHP Mysql there are local server environment such as MAMP on mac or XAMPP (just for more info). Only time you really like to have a server is if your going be hosting a website, there are a lot of alternatives to just doing plain coding, and treehouse provides a lot of free and built in programs to help you with your coding :).

Thanks Vince. I started Treehouse on May 9th, and I'm having a hard time keeping up. It seems to me like someone has to be extremely gifted in order to learn how to code. I could be wrong.

Don't feel overwhelmed, start from the basics :), your in the right community to get help from.

I suggest choosing a topic from the "TRACKS" icon on the left side of the navigation. Choose a topic you like to learn, because it goes step by step of everything you need to know related to the topic. for example, i want to become a front-end web developer, i done the HTML, and CSS basics and now i'm doing the Javascript basics.

They have a lot of great examples, and if you get stuck on their challenges you can always come back here and ask any of us for assistance :)

just keep practicing, also do research outside of treehouse because it helps a lot.
