18,502 Pointsintents and broadcast receivers
Challenge Task 1 of 3
To conserve battery, we want to add a broadcast receiver in TimeTravelActivity so that it only receives broadcasts when this Activity is running. Start by adding the proper Activity lifecycle methods needed to register and deregister the receiver. For now, just call the same methods from the parent class in each method.
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
public class TimeTravelActivity extends Activity {
public String targetYear;
private NetworkConnectionReceiver receiver = new NetworkConnectionReceiver();
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_time_travel);
Intent intent = getIntent();
targetYear = intent.getStringExtra("EXTRA_YEAR");
EnergySource source = (EnergySource)intent.getParcelableExtra("EXTRA_ENERGY");
}
}

Courses Plus Student 4,133 PointsYou need to override the methods in the activity lifecycle that are triggered when an activity becomes active and when it stops being active. The following link should help you: https://developer.android.com/guide/components/activities/activity-lifecycle.html

The answer for this can be found in the video preceding this coding exercise.
