I'm curious about the front-end web development course where we learn how to build the website.
Since there are people learning how to write the pages, is there any kind of authorship or intellectual property associated with using the code that Nick writes, and that we follow along in learning how to write as well?
Or is writing the page as well as Nick simply a really well structured way to write code - and something we should simply know how to do anyways without worry about authorship and laws?

28,149 PointsYou're over thinking it. There are best practices that you should strive to follow. But guess what happens when you follow best practices, you are more or less copying the style, or in some cases the code.
Where you can get into trouble is if your site blatenly looks like someone elses site. And no I don't mean both sites used the Bootstrap framework so a lot of modules are the same style, but if someone has a valid case that you are trying to confuse possible visitors that your site is actually their site, you're going to have a problem. But that is really at it's core malicious intent, so as long as you are not malicious on purpose, you should be just fine.
Image usage is however, another story.
