3,108 Pointsimg folder won't load into workspace
I've let it sit for hours, I downloaded the img file with all the pics in it just fine, have it saved to my computer, but no matter how many times I try or how long I let it sit, it will not load into workspaces...it just shows the spinning circle and "uploading img" in the bottom left corner of workspaces, and nothing happens, my internet is fine..don't know if I'm missing something or is this a bug with workspaces? Thanks for the help!

3,108 Pointshere's what I ended up doing to work around this: I'm on a Mac, and the images from the img folder did load onto my Mac. I found that if I dragged and dropped each pic from the img folder into workspaces, they loaded. No matter how many times I restarted workspaces, dragging and dropping the img folder into workspaces simply wouldn't load it, but added the files individually worked fine. Then, since they aren't in the img folder in workspaces, I just didn't include the "img/" portion of the code to load the image; i.e., it looks like this: a href ="numbers-01.jpg"> img src="numbers-01.jpg" alt="" since I'm not loading the jpg's from the img folder. This worked for me

Treehouse TeacherHi Adam Carter,
Thanks for letting us know. I'm sorry that you're having trouble with Workspaces. Despite all of our testing, it is still a new tool, so there may be some lingering issues that we need to sort out. Our Workspaces developers Jim Hoskins and Joe Steele will know more about what's going on, and may have some questions for you that can help diagnose the issue.
One thing to try is simply refreshing the Workspaces window, or closing the Workspace and reopening it. That might help to "restart" it and resolve some issues it might be having.
Jim Hoskins
Treehouse Guest TeacherThanks Nick. We're looking into this issue.
Sorry about the problems Adam Carter, in the mean time, if you close and reopen your workspace, it may fix it if it was just a transient network issue. We're going to try to get error handling a bit more resilient to avoid issues like this.

8,857 PointsI had the same problem but found by going to "File" on the menu bar and then "Upload File" I was able to select all the images and add very quickly and in one shot. I'm also on a mac.

10,721 PointsHi Amna Shamim, thanks for the feedback!
Could you tell me which browser you were using?
Also, when you dropped the files into the editor, did you happen to drop them on the box that pops open and says "Drop files to upload"? That's the only place dropping files to upload works.
Thanks for your patience and glad you found a workaround!
Evan Horstman
Courses Plus Student 950 PointsThe best solution so far has been to upload the images instead of the folder. You can create a new folder called img for them to upload into. This way they have the same path as the tutorial uses.

39,199 PointsNick Pettit - The project files for this project appear to be empty zips.
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherJames Barnett - Are you on Windows? Currently it seems to be isolated to Windows machines.
James Barnett
39,199 PointsOn Windows 7 using the compressed folder feature built into Windows Explorer, it shows no files. However in 7-zip on the same system inside the same zip folder it see's a folder with no name inside of which their are the files.
So it appears the zip files are malformed, and that's why the Windows compressed folder feature is having issues with them.
The issue should be fixed in Windows 8.
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherYou are correct. We have a fix for the Windows zip issues that should be rolled out later today.
Greg Vaughn
Courses Plus Student 9,012 PointsI had this problem today. When I dragged the folder over workspace I did not get the gray box. If I dropped the folder into workspace I got Index of file:///C:/Users/Carcharoth68/Desktop/img/ followed by a list of the images. Dropping an individual image into workspace just change the whole space to the that image. That was in Firefox 27.0.1. I switched to Chrome and had no problem at all.
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherHi Greg Vaughn,
Thanks for reporting this. Good to know that it's occurring in FF. Jim Hoskins and Joe Steele may have some follow up questions for you, but we'll try to get a fix out as soon as we can.

Courses Plus Student 950 PointsHi Nick, I am having the same problem as everyone else here. I am on a mac. I did the same thing as Carter, dropping the files inside the img folder. This works just fine. For kicks I tried dropping another folder of images I have on my desktop and that would just keep spinning as well. Although I am light years from being an expert, I am guessing this is an issue with the workspace itself? Since I was playing around with dropping items into the workspace, I also couldn't figure out how to delete items dropped in. The only thing I could come up with was not saving it and closing out the workspace.
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherHi Evan,
I'm not sure what the issue might be here, but I'll notify the Workspaces team about it. Have you tried again today? It could have been a temporary issue. Sorry this is happening, and thanks for being patient!
Joe Steele
10,721 PointsHi Evan Horstman, sorry for the troubles!
What browser were you using? Also, could you clarify your situation for me? It sounds like initially you were able to upload files, but when you dropped a separate folder of images, the upload never finished and sat there spinning?
My best guess is that maybe the workspace stopped running on our server and so the upload wasn't able to reach it.
We are working on adding a notification to the editor to notify when the editor can't connect to the workspace for some reason and attempt to restart it.
As for deleting files, there's a known bug with deleting images and we are working on getting that fixed! Deleting other files should work just fine though.
Thanks for using Workspaces and thanks for letting us know of the issue!

8,857 PointsI'm using Safari. Yes, I noticed that files need to be dropped exactly in that box after a first failed attempted but on further attempts, the images never seemed to load. They were simply permanently in the process of doing so until I figured out my workaround which had them up and running in a few seconds.
Evan Horstman
Courses Plus Student 950 PointsHi Nick & Joe,
Thank you for your quick responses, I really appreciate it. I am using Safari. I decided to scrap the workspace I was using and create a new one. When I created the new one, the image folder I was trying to upload appeared. Not sure how that happened.

2,490 PointsI'm using Chrome on Windows. Tried to refresh/ close and reopen WorkSpace but can't see the img uploaded. After uploading, it doesn't show anything. I've switched to use Sublime Text.

281 PointsI'm still having that problem - using Firefox. I will try the workaround, since they're on my mac now.

1,841 PointsHi, I'm on a Windows 7 machine running Chrome and I'm having the same issue. I've tried every suggestion including dropping the entire file, dropping one file, going to File > Upload File and trying all at once and one at a time, and I tried all of the same things on Firefox to no avail. Any more suggestions?
Nick Pettit
Treehouse TeacherHi Christina Murphy,
Sorry for the slow reply. That's strange it didn't work for you. Have you tried again since you posted this message?
If it still doesn't work, you can always try loading up the Workspace in the next video, which should have the files already there. I realize that's not an ideal solution, so if it's still not working for you, I'll let your developers know. Thanks for your patience!

Courses Plus Student 430 PointsI'm having this same problem. I'm using the most recent version of Firefox and when I try to drag the images into the Workspace side bar the dark grey box to drop them in does not show up. I switched over to Chrome to try it and the dark grey box appears in the side bar to drop the photos in but then after dropping them in nothing happens.

288 PointsMy uploads have been loading for a long time. I have restarter my browser (chrome) and computer....any other ideas? I can't continue with my lesson until they load....

4,028 PointsHi John,
We fixed an issue yesterday with file uploads. Can you give it another try sometime soon? Sorry for the disruption and thanks for your patience.

479 PointsHere's how I solved this problem, I created a folder on my desktop and opened that folder, next I selected all the photos except for ".DS_Store" and it worked from there.

22,028 PointsI have had success uploading images and text files to TreeHouse Workspaces, using Firefox 43.x and Windows XP. Here's the secret!
Open your Workspace, and open the Explorer window where your files are located. Click-and-hold your file and drag it to the extreme left and bottom of your Workspace panel. If you look carefully, the tooltip changes to a little square with a + symbol next to it. Anywhere else, it's just a square. Drop your file where you see the plus. Your file lands in the root folder, but you can move it to the desired Workspace folder after it's uploaded.
So the basic problem is that it is not obvious there is a drop target in the lower-left part of the gray Workspace panel. Actually, Joe Steele, one of the Workspaces developers, pointed this out in one of the discussion groups, but did not emphasize it. I think it might help if the developers made that target area a little more obvious, with a line or with a slight shading. But upload itself works fine.
Take care all!
