I'm trying to land a job.

Hi fellow students, I'm only 15 years old but have 4 apps currently out on the app store as well as my online portfolio nategrant.com . I'd love to have a job as an app reviewer/writer. Or an "In Training" developer. Let me know if you guys have any advice. Best, Nate

HI,

Thats great!

Few things id want to ask to maybe hoping to give some advice.

What specific are you doing? Are you interested more into iOS or Web developement? How long have you been doing this?

Some comments about the website, its great, but i think you could look at some inspirations on the internet e.g. ' Best online portfolios' or something like that.

Try to put good colours, dont get me wrong but it looks kinda like its from paint . Learn some colour theory .

By saying that you do websites, what do you mean specific? do you do a secure e-commerece websites? like facebook ones? or just a static webiste?

What apps do you do? do you do games or the news and stuff part? theres cople of things you can specialise in it.

Im not an expert nor know how to do most or some of thigs here, but i have a board knowledge since i asked a lot of question in the past so i learned :)

Yeah definitely, I do both web and iOS just mostly static simplistic websites and games for the App Store. I appreciate all the advice, thank you.

Well, if you do statick simplic websites, then i think, u cant say you are a Web 'Dveloper'. From what i understood when i was talking with a web developer, he told me i have to know PHP or JS or anything to make the page dynamic. HTML and CSS, thats just the layout of page.

You can add some of slider , or contact form, but i wont say thats really a web developement inviroment as this are fundamentals .

While i was looking at you protfolio, try to add a contact form, the modern one . Where somebody can fill their info and then they can submit it . Use PHP ro any other server side langague to make it .

It really depends how good you are and what can u you . The design doesnt have to be amazing since you cwant a programming job, but its allways a good thing to have as it will look nicer and the person will like it more .

Saying you do iOS and Web developement, and you just 15 years old, i would say, you must been doing this for few year i believe. Knowing these two , takes time. Unless you know the very simple stuff, then it will take cople of months.

Well, with a lot of free time, learning JS or PHP , you could land a job as little as 4-6 months + as some people did that way and even treehouse tell it on thier advertisement which is true.

I would suggest, try to focus on one, and become good. If you like iOS more, focus on it for now, then when yo ucan create amazing things, go and learn some web developement or vice versa.

Id say, try to maybe start something your own? it can give you some advantage . Like make a website, otaly by your self, get some help with color theory and stuff as this is very important, it doesnt mean u cant learn it or whatever, having a color advice from anyone is allways good. Then you can create some apps , but it there , you know... make it some what social and active , interesting so people can visit it in some time to see whats going on .

Id say, its not easy, but sincce you started in Obj-C, thing should be a lot easier for you to pick up languages like PHP i believe.

Set your self a vision and then turn thath vision in little steps ( goals ). E.g I want to be able to make a log in / log our function . I will have to learn it and then i can proceed to make a user class or object whatever are the names for it . When a user can log in, have hsi profile , i want them to post news feed , delete them and other cool functionality.

After i learned all this, i will make a little project, and i will put this in my test site, make it pretty and working .

For iOS , the same , there are things, in games, like levels, maybe try to do that or something like flappy birds.

I allways reffer on good learning to copy things. Exactly coping things, thats how i learned CSS pretty fast, i just copied websites . PHP is harder, since i cant check it and it would be too hard anyways ( or maybe not ) .

YOu get the idea i hope : p and dont rush, its a long journey . It may take you 3 months, it may take you 3 years, it can take you longer ,but if you persist, you will eventualy get there.

Doesnt matter if they accept you now or not, you will eventlay get there and dont look at others, make your onw plan and acomplish it if that made sense : p

Happy coding!

If you want any tutorials, some more tutorials , i can give you a hand with it . WIth PHP contact form, i could help you as well but there are many tutorials thath explain it well and show it. Basicaly you have to understand what their doing and then its very simple . But there are also harder PHP forms to make as well i don tknow why..

Best luck! :) When your finish, let me know! Im intrested what you will do :D
