Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types list.remove()

I'm stumped. Don't I want to remove 5?

There's a list with ACTIVE (which includes and list within a list of three colors), CANCELLED, FINISHED and 5. In the course, I removed a list_in_list. This is just in a list.

lists.py 
states = [
    'ACTIVE',
    ['red', 'green', 'blue'],
    'CANCELLED',
    'FINISHED',
    5,
]
state list.remove([5])

you call the remove method on your collection, not the generic list object. you also don't need brackets [] around 5. the argument you pass to remove can be the item itself, 5 in this case.
