it says to add a style tag just above the h1. is it just the opening tag or both? do I have to throw in a value? can you be more specific?

Style tags aren't self closed tags, so you need to specify it as you've already probably seen it previously. So for the first step, It's just.

You need both the opening and closing tag. It should be just above the h1. Still inside the body but above the h1.
