Most Treehouse Challenges start with a blank file. You'll need to follow the Task's instruction for the challenge and add your code to answer the question/task. Once added, you click "check work" and if correct, move on to the next task.
Keep Coding! :)

1,712 PointsI've done that. When I hit "preview" I can see it. But, I keep getting a "bummer" message when I submit it.

1,712 PointsI've tried restarting the training session. When I get to the end of the first video, I see this page https://teamtreehouse.com/library/how-to-make-a-website/beginning-html-and-css/write-an-html-element With a gray screen. There is no option to launch workspaces. When I hit "restart" it just reloads this same page. Can you call me to discuss? I think this would be easier over the phone.

Treehouse Moderator 145,860 PointsI'm just a student like you, so phoning is not an option. I've also deleted the number from your response, as putting any type of personal information onto a public forum opens yourself up to a whole headache of potential problems.
As for the challenges, you don't use Workspaces to complete them. The empty HTML file is provided for you to use with the challenge and is supposed to be empty when the challenge launches. You just put the cursor inside and type your answer there. If you're getting a Bummer! then that means there is an error with your code you typed in.
If this is more of a technical issue (i.e. unable to type in the code, etc), you will need to contact the Treehouse Support Team.
