2,971 PointsIf Statement is getting the error: Illegal start of type
I'm trying to type:
if (newBattery> MAX_BARS) { throw new IllegalArgumentException("Too Many Lapz!!!); }
But I keep getting errors.
class GoKart {
public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
private String color;
private int barCount;
private int lapsDriven;
public GoKart(String color) {
this.color = color;
}
public String getColor() {
return color;
}
public void charge() {
barCount = MAX_BARS;
}
public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
return barCount == 0;
}
public boolean isFullyCharged() {
return MAX_BARS == barCount;
}
public void drive() {
drive(1);
}
public void drive(int laps) {
lapsDriven += laps;
newBattery = barCount -= laps;
}
if (newBattery > MAX_BARS) {
throw new IllegalArgumentException("Too Much Laps!!");
}
}

Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree Graduate 50,856 PointsHi Matt, Brian is correct. Your if statement belongs into the drive method. Also you want to check if the laps to drive are greater than the barcount as the first thing you do inside the method.
Kind Regards, Florian

26,783 PointsHi Matt it looks like your if statement is floating inside your class without a method signature. In order to use the if logic it needs to be inside a method. I have not viewed the challenge you are on, but looking at the code you have posted, I would guess the if statement should go inside the drive method. I hoped that this helped good luck!
