If I want to customize the program, and upload to lambda does it have to be in js? Or would java work fine.

If I want to customize the program, and upload to lambda does it have to be in js? Or would java work fine. In the zip file the program is written in js, but i was wondering if we can write it in java, because i wanted to make a completey different alexa skill. Thanks
