Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types Use .split() and .join()

i understand how this code should be tackled however, i dont understand the " (','.join) "as why it uses (',')?

why is (',') needed? what is it performing?

banana.py
available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"
sundaes = available.split(';')
menu = "Our available flavors are: {}. "

So this challenge is to get the menu to be "Our available flavors are: banana split, hot fudge, cherry, malted, black and white"

In order to do this, you must split the available variable and put that value into the sundaes variable. The sundaes variable in this case will be ["banana split", "hot fudge", "cherry", "malted", "black and white"]. Next be need to join it separated by a comma and a space (, ) and format that into the menu variable. We do this by typing the separator, in this case, a comma and a space, so we do ", ".join(sundaes) . If you want the complete code, here you go:

available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"
sundaes = available.split(";")
menu = "Our available flavors are: {}".format(", ".join(sundaes))
